Every year the guys over www.hachiroku.com.au organise an annual gathering for the ae86 community and the 2009 event just happened to be on last weekend. Typically the event is run over 2 days with a trackday on one and a BBQ and cruise on the other. This year was abit different as the trackday planned for at Marulan Driver Training Centre had to be cancelled due to the owners having some noise pollution issues with the neighbours. Due to the late cancelation, the organises didn’t have the time to setup another track day, so Sunday’s festivities became the highlight of the weekend. The location for the BBQ was quite scenic located a few meters away from the George’s River, in Sydney’s south. To be totally honest I was actually quite shocked out how many people showed up. The reason for this is that in past years the number of participants at AE86 events in Sydney and the rest of Australia have been less then lack lustier, combine that with the bad weather that plagued the day and I personally thought there may of just been the 6-10 regular guys and girls who show up to most meets in Sydney. How wrong I was…
My favourite car from this event would have to be this very clean Kouki Trueno hatch, its modified exactly how I like my AE86s. Super clean and streetable.

Another super clean car was this bleeding panda Levin coupe wearing a nice set of work equips, its kind of how I can see my coupe turning out in the future.

To go along with the clean street cars there were some more hardcores track cars like Beaus SR20 powered Kouki Trueno drift car.

and Brads newly completed 3SGE Beams powered Levin coupe.

As you can see from the above pictures the weather was pretty bad with most people finding cover under the provided shelters.

The best thing about these gathering is the social aspect and its reason for the lack of photos as I spent way too much time catching up with old friends than actually taking photos.

Like usual Adam was cooking up a storm on the BBQ. Thank you very much, it was very nice and I still owe you for the sandwich and Coke.

Another one of the regular cars at Sydney AE86 meets is Vigilios (sorry if i spelt it wrong) Levin hatch so clean and simple.

If anyone wants to know what happens when you put a SR20 into an AE86, this is the looks you get of everyone when you open the bonnet for the first time.

It was also good to see previous owners of ae86s and owners of none running 86s turn up and show their support for this event. Justin who races a 3sge powered IPRA AE86 thought he would add some taste to his pulsar just for this event by adding a Levin badge. Very nice touch!

There was also a nice turn out of the AE86’s cousin the AE/KE70’s.

There was also a few other Toyota’s on display, it’s actually quite funny to see how many past owners of older Toyotas have moved on to the newer Chaser, id happily drive one.

Overall it was great afternoon of socialising, shit talking and eating. I can’t wait for next year’s event and I’m hoping it’s an epic road trip somewhere exciting. Big thanks has to go out to Adam and his better half Lisa for organising such a great event and putting in the hard yards cooking the bbq and working out the cruise route, thank you. Also a big thank you to the AE86 and KE70 community!
